National Hamburger AND Salad Month? Coincidence? I think not!
May is National Salad AND National Hamburger Month … two of my favorite foods!
Lets try and ditch those high-fat fast food burgers this month and add some pizazz to your grill! Pair your burgers with a quick salad, top with some fresh fruit and dressing and Viola! Quick meal in less than 20 minutes!
Here are some options…
Good Ol American Burger-
Yes beef is slightly higher in kcals than turkey but packs quite the nutrient punch! Beef is a great source of iron, zinc, vitamin B6, and alpha lipoic acid.
Buy a package of 96% lean ground beef
Form into patties, add a pinch of salt, pepper and garlic and grill!
Use a reduced calorie or whole grain bun and top with your choice of veggies or of course… add a side salad.
Here is a quick go to dressing I made that adds some kick to your salad greens
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 Tablespoons
(light or regular) sour cream, a squeeze of lemon (about 4
teaspoons), and a large drizzle of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat salad!
Turkey Cilantro Burgers
Ingredients
1 pound 93% lean ground turkey
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
2 tsp minced garlic (or 2 cloves)
1/2teaspoon garlic Powder
1/4teaspoon cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
5 slices Sargento Thin Slices
1 avocado, thinly sliced (optional)
5 slices tomato
5 whole wheat hamburger buns
